Job summary

GovCIO is hiring a Data Scientist to support the VA data modernization initiative. This fully remote position is located within the United States.

The candidate will work with internal clients to build data products and migrate workloads to cloud platforms, enabling measurable improvements and AI adoption. Responsibilities include end-to-end DS workflows, model development and deployment, creating reference use cases, and hosting office hours to upskill clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, CS, Systems, Business or related field.
• Proficient in Python and advanced SQL for data analysis.
• Experience with cloud platforms Databricks, Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Experience with end-to-end DS workflow and tooling (NumPy, SciPy, MLFlow).
• Knowledge of traditional ML toolboxes and techniques.
• Familiarity with LLMs and agentic AI workflows.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a suitability/public trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Consult with internal clients and build data products/workflows to support critical operations.
• Migrate and modernize clients’ workloads to the cloud for measurable improvements.
• Lead AI adoption with clients to drive business outcomes.
• Create reference use cases with tutorials, code, and training for cloud tooling adoption.
• Host office hours to upskill clients and share knowledge.
• Develop, train, and deploy machine learning to solve complex business problems.
