Job summary

Workiva Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Data Platform Reliability Engineer to ensure reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of our analytics and data systems. You will guide an offshore contract team and provide technical direction without people management responsibilities.

You will own the operational health, define SLIs/SLOs, lead incident response, and drive improvements through automation, observability, and data governance across a large-scale data platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years in SRE/DevOps or Systems Engineering with data infrastructure focus.
• Proven ability to provide clear technical leadership to distributed teams.
• Deep understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Hands-on Snowflake and DBT experience; expert Snowflake SQL.
• Expert-level experience with Terraform, Splunk, and Airflow.
• Proficiency in Python and Java/Go/Scala.
• Experience with ingestion frameworks like Fivetran, CData, Census, Openflow.
• Experience with S3, Athena, Iceberg.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical leadership and direction to offshore teams to ensure platform reliability.
• Own operational health and performance of the data platform with SLIs/SLOs.
• Lead incident response, blameless post-mortems, and drive improvements.
• Design monitoring and alerting for service-oriented architecture.
• Build self-service workflows and IaC to reduce toil.
• Orchestrate data tasks using Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect to handle dependencies.
• Ensure RBAC and data governance.
• Develop data quality circuit breakers to halt bad data.
• Coordinate with Legal/Security for GDPR/CCPA/HIPAA/SOX compliance.
• Capacity planning for cloud budget across Snowflake/BigQuery/Databricks.
• Translate technical constraints into business impact and explain delays.
• Provide operational support to data engineering and product teams.
