Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to support VA applications and lead the migration to cloud environments. The role focuses on software configuration management, build and release engineering, and automation across diverse environments.

You will design CM processes, guide developers, and ensure compliant, repeatable builds and deployments while collaborating with stakeholders and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Proven track record of leading and delivering complex software builds and releases.
• Experience in regulated or federal environments.
• Deep expertise in software configuration management and release engineering.
• Knowledge across development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices (identification, baselining, change control, status accounting).
• Experience with Git, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps Repos, Subversion and branching/merging.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions) and artifacts (Nexus, Artifactory).
• Scripting in Bash, PowerShell, Python.
• Infrastructure as code with Ansible and Terraform.
• JIRA, Azure Boards, Trello; Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software incl. COTS.
• Perform CM and release engineering tasks ensuring documented, compliant builds.
• Design, develop, automate, maintain productivity tools for software modeling and development.
• Develop build procedures to support product development and use.
• Develop software CM standards for company-wide use.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance on complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and meet deadlines.
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build/deployment across projects.
• Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders.
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
