Job summary

Delta Dental of California seeks an Associate General Counsel to lead strategic legal guidance across enterprise functions. You will collaborate with the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to provide timely advice and influence enterprise strategy.

You will mentor lawyers, manage cross-functional teams, and drive governance, budgeting, and outside counsel relationships to protect the company while supporting business roadmaps.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience providing business-appropriate legal advice to leaders.
• 5+ years of demonstrated success leading, managing, and developing lawyers.
• Licensed attorney required upon hire (varies by state).
• Ability to provide global risk assessment and risk mitigation strategies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality legal service through cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues.
• Act as a legal and business generalist to counsel leadership on critical issues.
• Coach and guide the AGC in collaborating with leaders to provide integrated legal services.
• Cultivate and manage relationships with business stakeholders and participate in cross-functional planning.
• Develop understanding of enterprise trends to formulate business-appropriate legal strategies.
• Escalate legal and risk issues to senior leaders for proper governance.
• Forecast talent gaps and contribute to succession planning across the legal team.
• Align Legal Department goals with enterprise objectives and coach groups accordingly.
• Oversee department budgeting and outside counsel management.
