Job summary

General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. seeks a Senior AI Engineer (AWS) to join the NIAID team, designing, building, and deploying AWS AI solutions that support the NIAID research community.

You will translate requirements into secure, scalable architectures, leveraging Bedrock, SageMaker, Q, and related tools while collaborating with developers, security teams, and stakeholders. Qualifications

• Bachelors in Computer Science, AI/Data Science, Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years of relevant experience in AI/ML and cloud environments.
• Proven experience designing, building, and running AI agents or generative AI applications in production.
• Hands-on experience with AWS AI/ML stack: Bedrock, Bedrock AgentCore, SageMaker, Q.
• Strong knowledge of prompt engineering, RAG, vector stores, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Experience with IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK) and CI/CD for AI workloads.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship autonomous and multi-agent systems in production using Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore.
• Select, evaluate, and integrate foundation models; design RAG pipelines and evaluate retrieval quality.
• Design highly available, scalable, secure AI architectures on AWS following the Well‑Architected Framework.
• Operationalize AI agents end-to-end with automated evaluation, guardrails, observability, and IaC.
• Implement guardrails, data privacy, and security controls and ensure compliance with frameworks.
• Mentor junior engineers and communicate with stakeholders; stay current with AWS AI landscape.
• Architect and evolve cloud solutions for GenAI architectures including Bedrock, multimodal LLMs, and vector search.
• Partner with developers, security teams, and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable cloud solutions.
• Engineer full-stack AWS solution plumbing to support production GenAI applications.
• Serve as a senior technical resource and customer-facing advisor on AI approaches.
