Job summary

ICON is seeking a pragmatic AI Software Engineer to design and ship AI-powered tools, workflows, and autonomous agents for its Government Technology team. The role is remote with periodic travel to ICON HQ in Austin, TX.

You will own end-to-end AI feature development, from prototyping to deployment, and mentor others in agentic AI best practices. Required are 8+ years of software engineering, experience with LLMs and agentic frameworks, and proficiency in TypeScript or Python.

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience with backend or full-stack focus.
Production-grade products using LLMs and agentic frameworks.
Proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python.
Deep understanding of prompt engineering and LLM reasoning.
Experience with tool-use, function calling, and agent orchestration.
Structured evals to measure and improve AI system performance.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience in government/defense or regulated environments.
Experience with code generation agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Devin-style).
Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

Design and build agentic AI systems that automate complex workflows across ICON's platform.
Develop LLM-powered features using state-of-the-art models and APIs.
Architect multi-agent pipelines, tool-use systems, and MCP integrations.
Build robust RAG systems with document ingestion and vector retrieval.
Collaborate with software and domain teams to ship AI products.
Own the full development lifecycle of AI features from prototype to production.
Mentor others on agentic AI best practices across the engineering org.
Stay at the forefront of agentic AI and bring new techniques to production.
