Job summary

Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, LLP seeks a Senior Accountant/Controller to manage a wide range of financial duties in a high production environment for IP prosecution. The role is full-time and exempt, reporting to the Executive Director, with the option to work remotely from home for residents of VA, DC, Maryland, or West Virginia.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required
• Minimum of 5–7 years of accounting and reporting experience
• CPA designation required; CPA firm experience preferred
• Experience in an IP law firm or professional services environment is a plus
• Solid knowledge of Excel and report writing

Responsibilities

• Perform and review monthly accounting reconciliations
• Assist with banking renewals
• Coordinate with outside CPA firms for annual compilations and audits
• Establish and monitor accounting policies and procedures
• Assist with annual budget process
• Assist with payroll processing and timekeeping
• Prepare and review ad hoc management reports
• Support automation of accounting and billing databases
• Prepare monthly Accounts Receivable reports and bad debt schedules
• Assist with quarterly commission reports and partner meetings
