Job summary

The SLAPP Back Initiative, a project of First Amendment Watch at NYU, seeks two part-time researchers/fact-checkers for six months. Remote, 25 hours/week, $20/hour, with real-time data work across jurisdictions and PACER-based verification.

Ideal candidates have legal research experience and can handle large datasets while applying a rigorous methodology to anti-SLAPP decisions and related reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, law, communications or another relevant field.
• Proficiency in Google Sheets.
• Knowledge of AI tools and software is a plus.
• Experience using PACER and other court records systems.
• Knowledge of local and national current events, and issues related to First Amendment freedoms.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with our team to organize, review, analyze and fact-check SLAPP decisions consistent with our methodology.
• Utilize legal research databases and publicly available court records to increase transparency and accessibility to our data.
