Job summary

Pioneering Medicines, Flagship Pioneering’s in-house drug development unit, seeks a Medical Director or Senior Medical Director to lead early clinical development strategies. This physician-scientist role shapes plans spanning from discovery to human proof-of-concept, driving cross-functional collaboration and robust execution.

The position can be onsite in Cambridge, MA (4 days/week) or remote for candidates outside a 30-mile radius.

Qualifications

• Physician Scientist: MD or MD with PhD with a robust scientific background.
• 3+ years post-graduate experience in industry or academic clinical research.
• Medical residency completion required.
• Subspecialty fellowship training highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of early clinical development and translational medicine.
• Proven leadership and effective communication skills across stakeholders.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem solving for bottlenecks.
• Proactive and adaptable in demanding environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead early clinical development plans through hPOC aligned with the TPP.
• Collaborate with senior clinical leaders, Research, Strategy and external advisors.
• Integrate plans with translational, nonclinical, and regulatory strategies.
• Partner with Research to align outputs with clinical objectives.
• Work with Strategy to support the program value proposition.
• Incorporate regulatory input and real-world data for executable plans.
• Develop timelines, resource forecasts, and budget assumptions for NewCo planning.
• Prepare materials for governance forums and joint steering committees.
• Identify and address development risks; drive cross-functional resolutions.
• Promote scientific rigor, accountability, agility, and collaboration.
