Job summary

Symetra is offering a fully remote Public Affairs Internship designed to expose you to external affairs, public policy, and community engagement. You will work on projects within Public Affairs, Community Relations, and Social Impact, including events and grant processes.

The program targets rising juniors or seniors with strong communication skills and a passion for public policy, ready to contribute to CSR initiatives while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Rising junior or senior in an accredited degree program.
• Demonstrated interest in public policy, government or public affairs.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to attend events in-person in the Greater Seattle area.
• Knowledge of public policy and current events.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with community relations events and nonprofit partnerships.
• Administering grant process for Symetra Empowers Communities, reviewing grants and coordinating with stakeholders.
• Drafting community event invitations and coordinating participant responses.
• Watching webinars and hearings, synthesizing key points and circulating notes internally.
• Assisting team members during conferences and meetings with policymakers; tracking and summarizing events.
• Conducting research, summarizing legislation, tracking current events, and writing policy briefs.
