Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Project Accountant in Hopkins, MN, to oversee financial aspects of assigned projects from proposal through closeout. The role includes project setup, billing, AR/collections, and intercompany postings in a hybrid office environment.

The position requires 2+ years in project accounting and 4+ years in accounting overall, with strong skills in WIP analysis, invoicing, and tax compliance. Training will be provided, with most activity transitioning to remote work quarterly.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of project accounting experience managing multiple projects.
• 4+ years of accounting experience in a professional environment.
• Strong knowledge of project accounting processes including setup, WIP, and closeout.
• Hands-on project billing experience with various billing methods.
• Ability to prepare and submit accurate client invoices on time.
• Experience reviewing vendor POs and invoices for projects.
• Experience AR and collections for projects, resolving cash receipts.
• Knowledge of U.S. sales tax for professional services and project materials.
• Familiarity with lien waivers and related docs.
• Ability to use a project accounting system for setup and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project managers on accounting aspects from proposal to closeout.
• Validate proposals, POs, and setup documents for accuracy.
• Set up and maintain client projects in the accounting system.
• Handle different billing structures and ensure proper invoices.
• Prepare, review, and submit client invoices timely.
• Review vendor POs and invoices against budgets and terms.
• Conduct project financial reviews including cost-to-complete and WIP.
• Manage intercompany postings for revenue and expense.
• Oversee AR and collections and resolve discrepancies.
• Apply U.S. sales tax knowledge to billing and reporting.
• Close out projects and ensure all billables are invoiced.
• Maintain project accounting records and lien waivers.
