Affirm's Application Security team is seeking an early-career engineer who can read code, assess risks, and contribute lightweight tooling to strengthen security across products. You will partner with product and engineering teams, review code and logs, and help translate findings into practical mitigations.

Qualifications

• 0–2+ years of experience in application security or related fields.
• Foundational programming ability in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, or similar.
• Comfort reading and reasoning about code in unfamiliar codebases.
• Experience using Git and GitHub workflows, including PRs and code reviews.
• Hands-on experience building, testing, or securing software.
• Ability to write clear scripts or small programs to automate tasks.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product and engineering teams to identify security risks and define next steps.
• Read application code, configuration, PRs, logs, and documentation to understand systems.
• Contribute small code changes, scripts, detections, tests, or automation to improve workflows.
• Review code changes in GitHub, discuss engineering context, and track remediation work.
• Evaluate vulnerabilities from various sources and help prioritize and remediate based on risk.
• Contribute to vulnerability management workflows, triage, severity, and remediation guidance.
• Translate recurring findings into secure coding guidance, checklists, or automation.
• Work with engineers to understand designs, data flows, and trust boundaries.
• Communicate security issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build relationships across teams to influence security outcomes.
• Connect AppSec work to customer trust, regulatory expectations, and business outcomes.
