Job summary

Eliassen Group seeks a Principal Data Scientist to scale Data Science and AI for end-to-end payment optimization. You will design, deploy, and monitor real-time ML models, collaborating with ML engineers and product partners to deliver production-grade solutions.

The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on contributions across architecture, design reviews, and code reviews, mentoring senior data scientists and guiding cross-functional initiatives in a remote, contract-to-hire capacity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field. PhD preferred.
• 7+ years in ML research or engineering with 5+ years building large-scale, real-time ML systems in production, including hands-on experience.
• Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn) and SQL; NoSQL or graph databases are a plus.
• Strong ability to lead solution design and translate complex business requirements into tech solutions.
• Exceptional communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with executives.

Responsibilities

• Define technical vision and strategy for data-driven product initiatives focused on payment optimization.
• Develop scalable, real-time ML capabilities including classification, ranking, and optimization.
• Oversee deployment, operation, validation, and maintenance of ML models and update systems.
• Establish best practices for ML modeling and evaluate modern tools and infrastructure.
• Mentor senior data scientists and collaborate with product, engineering, data, and compliance teams.
