Job summary

Sedgwick seeks a Principal Data Scientist to lead the design and deployment of advanced statistical and machine-learning models across claims, risk, and operations. You will shape modeling strategies, guide data science teams, and collaborate with AI engineering to scale deployments across enterprise platforms.

Ideal candidates hold 8–12+ years of experience, strong Python/R skills, and a track record of delivering end-to-end modeling pipelines in large organizations.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field and 8–12+ years of data science experience.
• Deep expertise in ML, statistics, and predictive analytics.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R.
• Extensive experience with large enterprise datasets and end-to-end modeling pipelines.
• Ability to mentor teammates and translate complex analytics for leaders.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of advanced statistical and ML models to improve claims outcomes and risk management.
• Serve as technical authority for complex modeling including fraud detection and recovery optimization.
• Develop models using structured and unstructured data, including notes and records.
• Architect modeling approaches using gradient boosting, deep learning, NLP and probabilistic methods.
• Collaborate with AI engineering to productionize models and integrate into enterprise platforms.
• Design feature engineering strategies and pipelines using large datasets.
• Establish best practices for model development, validation, and reproducibility.
• Provide technical guidance to data scientists and analysts; mentor junior team members.
• Translate findings into actionable insights for business leaders and ops teams.
• Evaluate opportunities with Claims Operations, Finance, Risk, and IT stakeholders.
