Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Muleshoe Ranch Preserve Steward to manage day-to-day maintenance and land operations at a remote preserve in southeastern Arizona. You will maintain housing, infrastructure, and equipment, and implement restoration projects to protect aquatic and riparian systems.

The role includes supervising seasonal staff and coordinating with volunteers and contractors. Housing at the Preserve is provided and required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 1 year of training in a science-related field or related field experience.
• Experience operating and repairing equipment such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, UTVs/ATVs.
• Experience with electrical, plumbing, welding or concrete work.
• Experience with natural systems and sustainable ecological land management.

Responsibilities

• Maintain historic buildings and staff/guest housing, shop facilities, utilities, roads, trails, fencing, vehicles, and equipment.
• Perform preventative, routine and corrective maintenance; decide in-house vs contractors.
• Implement management plans focused on aquatic systems and monitor restoration data.
• Plan, supervise and coordinate seasonal staff, interns, volunteers and contractors.
• Host visitors, donors, researchers, and partners; lead field trips and events.
• Develop and maintain preserve records and monitoring databases.
