Job summary

The Nature Conservancy's Muleshoe Ranch Preserve Steward position in southeastern Arizona supports day-to-day maintenance and land management at a remote Preserve. You will maintain housing and facilities, implement management plans, and supervise seasonal staff and volunteers when present on site.

The fixed-term role (Oct 2026–Jun 2027) includes on-site housing and requires strong problem-solving, field judgement, and the ability to work in challenging terrain and weather while coordinating

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED and 1 year’s training in a science-related field or related experience in land management, facilities maintenance or similar field.
• Experience operating and/or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.
• Experience with natural systems and ecological restoration principles.

Responsibilities

• Maintain historic buildings and staff/guest housing, shop facilities, utilities, roads, trails, fencing, vehicles, and equipment.
• Implement Preserve management plans focused on aquatic systems and restoration projects.
• Plan, supervise seasonal staff, interns, volunteers and contracted crews; oversee projects and contractors.
• Host donors, researchers, partners and the public; lead field trips and support events.
• Develop and maintain Preserve records and data related to maintenance and monitoring.
