Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Pre-Certification Specialist to identify patients needing precertification, verify benefits, and obtain required documentation. You will communicate with insurers and provider offices to secure authorizations before service dates, ensuring compliance and patient confidentiality.

The role requires strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, proficiency with computer systems, and experience with Epic. Remote full-time position with wrap‑around benefits.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle stress and solve problems.
• Computer experience required.
• Knowledge of Epic preferred.
• Able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Identify scheduled patients requiring pre-certification or pre-determination.
• Gather all relevant patient data to acquire precertification.
• Contact insurers to obtain pre-certifications and determine eligibility.
• Follow up on insurance issues to secure financial resolution.
• Obtain clinical documentation for pre-certification.
• Coordinate timely follow-up to ensure authorization before service date.
• Communicate with Mercy Partners and Patient Financial Counselors.
• Maintain payor knowledge and ensure confidentiality.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

1 year of pre-certifications, medical billing, registration, healthcare experience
