Job summary
Feeding Illinois is seeking a Director of Policy, Government Affairs & Advocacy to lead its legislative and public policy strategy at state and federal levels. This role acts as chief lobbyist, building relationships with lawmakers, agencies, and coalitions to advance anti-hunger programs and protect nutrition funding.
The Director will coordinate with Feeding Illinois member food banks, develop policy proposals, monitor bills, and guide communications and events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree recommended; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of work experience with at least 3 years in lobbying, advocacy or public policy.
- Expert knowledge of federal and state legislative processes; Illinois familiarity preferred.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Strong relationship-building and coalition-building abilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a statewide and federal government affairs strategy.
- Serve as primary liaison to legislators and agencies.
- Monitor and influence legislation, budgets, and regulations affecting hunger relief.
- Build and maintain statewide coalitions and partnerships.
- Advise leadership and manage advocacy staff and partners.
- Coordinate advocacy messaging, events, and communications.
