Job summary

American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is seeking an intern to assist California Tobacco Control Grant Project with local policy efforts, events and outreach. The intern will use community health promotion and education skills to outreach and build community support for tobacco control and cancer-related policies in local municipalities.

The internship is virtual, requires at least 15 hours per week, and involves driving to community events when needed.

Qualifications

• Be at least a 2nd year college student.
• Intern at least fifteen (15) hours a week.
• This is a virtual internship; student must drive to community events.
• Have reliable transportation.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale).
• Plan to continue education in the following term/semester.
• Disengage upon graduation.

Responsibilities

• Attend and support data collection at community events, including surveys and stakeholder interviews.
• Research tobacco-related policies, policy makers, and monitor related news.
• Prepare educational materials and co-facilitate workshops for policy issues.
• Join ACS CAN team to advocate with decision makers, attend city council meetings, and educate on local policy impacts.
