Job summary

CPIA is seeking a Photonics System Engineer in Boulder to drive the theory, design, and implementation of photonic integrated circuits for scalable ML systems. You will collaborate across teams to build PIC-based datacom solutions and advance integration with electronic systems.

The role favors candidates based in Boulder or the Bay Area, with remote work possible from other locations for strong backgrounds. Compensation reflects market salaries and equity.

Qualifications

• Experience with PIC system design for datacom/telecom and integration.
• Experience with PIC simulation and EDA tools (Lumerical, RSoft, Photon Design, Mode, FDTD analysis, INTERCONNECT, OptSim, Cadence, Luceda).
• Laboratory optics testing experience including fiber attach and alignment for PIC testing.
• Experience with general optical lab equipment, sources and power meters.
• Developing and executing test plans and taking a PIC from concept through to product.

Responsibilities

• Design and evaluate PIC concepts for datacom.
• Evaluate foundries, PDKs, vendors for capabilities and compatibility.
• Implement PIC design into larger electronic systems.
• Perform link budget analysis across optical and electrical domains.
