Job summary

Voyant Photonics in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Photonics Layout Engineer to own PIC layouts from floorplanning to tapeout. You will develop automated layout workflows, tackle dense waveguide routing, and collaborate with photonic designers and packaging engineers in a fast-paced startup environment.

This role emphasizes strong Python scripting, GDSII layout skills, and experience with photonic layout tools.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Optical Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of PIC layout experience, preferably silicon photonics.
• Proficiency with photonics layout tools such as GDSFactory, IPKISS, KLayout.
• Strong Python scripting including layout automation.
• Experience with photonic waveguide routing and chip-level layout integration.
• Familiarity with foundry PDKs, design rules, and tapeout processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement layouts for complex photonic ICs from component tests to large PICs.
• Translate schematics into manufacturable GDSII layouts.
• Implement dense waveguide routing and multi-layer interconnects.
• Create and maintain parameterized photonic cells and layout libraries.
• Develop Python scripts for layout generation, routing, and verification.
• Integrate photonic and electrical layouts including routing and packaging interfaces.
• Perform and debug DRC, LVS, and optical connectivity checks.
• Collaborate with photonic designers, packaging engineers, and foundry partners.
