Job summary

BCBST BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Inc. is hiring an Underwriter-Pharmacy in our Commercial Operations Division. The role focuses on pharmacy risk assessment, pricing, contract configuration, and related underwriting tasks to support client claims cost management.

The successful candidate will analyze data, communicate findings to cross-functional teams, and balance analytical rigor with strategic thinking in a fast-paced environment that values accuracy and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years experience in underwriting, insurance finance, actuarial or related area.

Responsibilities

• Collect information and clarify missing group health application data with sales, account managers, agents and other parties.
• Perform risk appraisals for group health insurance prospects and renewals; classify risk to determine coverage and pricing.
• Calculate and negotiate rates for group health insurance using approved formulas and tables.
• Communicate with sales, account managers, agents about product features and pricing.
• Provide underwriting expertise to projects supporting sales, marketing, membership and billing.
