Job summary

State of Montana Department of Administration in Helena is seeking a Payroll Accounting/Compliance Specialist to manage advanced payroll accounting, PERS reconciliation, and timely remittance of withholdings and employer contributions.

The role ensures regulatory compliance, supports audits, and collaborates with HR, Finance, and agency partners to maintain payroll integrity. Three years of related experience and an associate degree are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
• Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible payroll, accounting, or retirement administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile retirement contributions and prepare required reports and adjustments.
• Process and reconcile payroll liabilities, employee deductions, and employer contributions.
• Prepare federal and state payroll tax filings including Forms W-2, 941, and withholding reports.
• Respond to employee questions regarding retirement eligibility and deductions.
