Job summary

NeoGenomics is seeking a remote Pathology Data Specialist to extract data from pathology reports, validate metadata, and enter standardized diagnostic information into the LIS. You will collaborate with pathologists and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.

You will leverage EHR/EMR and LIS/NIS systems, map diagnoses using OncoTree, and support data flow automation while mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Histotechnology, Cytotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Information Management, or a closely related field.
• Master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics, Oncology Data Management, Public Health, or related discipline preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in pathology informatics, histology, oncology data, cancer registry, or molecular diagnostics environment.
• Experience abstracting pathology and oncology data, interpreting reports, and entering structured information into databases.
• Experience in diagnostic oncology studies, tumor registries, or data-driven quality initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Review surgical pathology reports and abstract diagnostic elements (tumor type, site, histologic subtype, grade, stage).
• Liaise with pathology/medical team for clarifications and manage escalations.
• Escalate medical questions to pathologists for confirmation.
• Document escalations and feedback with audit traceability.
• Map diagnoses to OncoTree markers and molecular test bundles.
• Coordinate accurate entry into NeoGenomics databases and LIS/NIS.
• Utilize LIS/LIS databases for data entry, validation, and QC tracking.
• Collaborate with Client Services, IHC Lab, Molecular Operations, and Reporting teams to resolve discrepancies.
• Support data flow automation and documentation processes.
• Train and mentor team members in abstraction, coding, and database entry.
• Achieve full proficiency in abstraction and mapping within two months.
• Maintain accuracy and document QC outcomes for continuous improvement.
