Job summary

WQED Multimedia is seeking a part-time Newsletter Editor to write and curate its weekly email newsletter, guiding viewers and listeners through PBS programming, local productions, and events. The role blends writing with editing and audience-focused storytelling.

You will translate program details into clear copy, coordinate with Marketing and Programming, and help develop repeatable formats and calendars while maintaining a warm, Pittsburgh-focused voice.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Strong editorial judgment for audience usefulness.
• Experience creating newsletters or digital content.
• Ability to translate program info into audience-friendly copy.
• Familiarity with Pittsburgh region preferred.

Responsibilities

• Write and produce WQED’s weekly email newsletter, including subject lines, preheaders, headlines, blurbs, calls to action, and basic formatting.
• Curate highlights from PBS, WQED local programming, Classical WQED, WQED+, PBS KIDS, events, education initiatives, and community resources.
• Translate program descriptions, schedules, streaming availability, and internal notes into clear, audience-friendly copy.
• Help viewers and listeners understand what is new, what is timely, what is local, and what is worth their attention.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Programming, Digital, Development, Education, and Classical WQED colleagues to gather accurate information and identify priorities.
• Maintain a consistent WQED voice: warm, neighborly, useful, Pittsburgh-focused, and grounded in public service.
• Assemble and proof occasional special-purpose emails and announcements tied to major programs, station events, fundraising campaigns, or community initiatives.
• Review newsletter performance, including open rates, click-throughs, and audience behavior, and use those insights to improve future editions.
• Proofread carefully for accuracy, grammar, links, dates, times, channel information, streaming language, and tone.
• Help develop repeatable newsletter formats, editorial calendars, and workflows that make the newsletter easier to produce and more valuable to readers.
