Job summary

LanguageLine Solutions LLC is seeking a qualified Nyanja-English interpreter to perform on-demand phone interpretation from home in the United States. The role is an independent contractor position with no employee benefits, remote work, and a requirement for a quiet home office.

The interpreter will handle diverse calls across healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel, and more, translating verbally and ensuring cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Nyanja and English with cultural awareness.
• Ability to adapt communication to LEP needs.
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and professionally.
• Render accurate meanings according to interpretation protocol.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation.
• Maintain professional demeanor throughout sessions.
• Remain calm on emotional or high-volume calls, including 911 scenarios.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protect LEP privacy per protocol.
• Understand terminology across Medical, Insurance, Finance, Law.
