Job summary

Modular is seeking a Back-End Compiler Engineer to design and implement Mojo features, optimize for CPUs, GPUs, and AI accelerators, and shape Mojo’s developer experience. You will work with MLIR/LLVM in a multi-target compiler stack and collaborate across kernel authors and hardware teams.

Join a small, boundary-less team with opportunities to impact language design, tooling, and SDKs while contributing to an ambitious AI infrastructure project.

Qualifications

• 5+ years working on compilers, runtimes, or language implementations.
• Hands-on mastery of C++ (Python fluency a big plus).
• Experience with MLIR and LLVM.
• Experience optimizing code for CPUs, GPUs or AI accelerator hardware.
• Have contributed to a real-world compiler project.

Responsibilities

• Craft and implement new Mojo language features on top our MLIR-based compiler architecture.
• Dream up and realize optimization passes that make GPUs, CPUs, and accelerators sing in harmony.
• Shape the developer experience for Mojo — from syntax to performance semantics.
• Collaborate with the Modular core teams, researchers, and an emerging open-source community.
• Help define what "next-generation language design" means in the age of AI.
