Job summary

Affirm is building AI-powered customer operations systems that automate disputes, refunds, fraud, and chargebacks. You will take models from idea to production with strong monitoring and risk controls.

This remote-first role requires 2+ years in ML engineering, Python expertise, and experience with LLMs and structured extraction. You will collaborate across teams to deliver robust AI solutions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a machine learning engineer.
• Strong Python skills and production-quality coding experience.
• Experience building and evaluating models for tabular classification (LightGBM/XGBoost/CatBoost).
• Experience with LLM APIs and structured extraction, prompts, and orchestration (LangChain/LangGraph).
• Familiarity with document/unstructured data processing.
• Experience with ML lifecycle tooling (Kubeflow, Airflow, MLflow).
• Proficient with AI-powered developer tools to accelerate iteration and quality.
• Able to translate business problems into multi-component software solutions with clean, tested code.
• Comfortable navigating large codebases and conducting code reviews.
• Strong growth mindset and proactive feedback seeking.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for a global team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI systems that automate dispute and chargeback handling.
• Build models to automate refunds and speed up customer reimbursements.
• Maintain evidence extraction pipelines processing unstructured data.
• Prototype ideas, run offline experiments, and productionize best approaches.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Servicing Operations, Product, and ML Platform.
