Job summary

Mercor is seeking an ML Engineer (Coding Agent Experience) for contract work, focused on utilizing frontier AI coding agents to complete complex ML engineering tasks. Remote collaboration with AI research teams and production systems is expected to review training, inference, and MLOps components.

The role requires 2+ years of ML engineering experience, familiarity with LLM applications, and the ability to evaluate model-generated ML implementations and tradeoffs.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional ML engineering experience.
• Experience building production ML systems or AI-powered products.
• Regular use of AI coding agents like Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI.
• Ability to evaluate model-generated ML implementations and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Use frontier AI coding agents to complete and evaluate complex ML/AI tasks.
• Review model-generated implementations involving model training, inference, MLOps, and LLM apps.
• Identify bugs, edge cases, performance issues, and failure modes in AI models.
• Compare outputs from multiple frontier models and assess strengths and weaknesses.
• Apply professional engineering judgment to realistic ML engineering scenarios.
