Job summary

The Ohio State University Libraries seek a Metadata Student Assistant to support metadata initiatives. You will help create, transform, and edit non-MARC metadata for the Digital Collections, using Excel and OpenRefine, and publish records with quality control for accessibility compliance.

Work is 12 hours weekly, remotely or hybrid from anywhere in Ohio, with training provided and potential for internship or credit.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Masters degree with a focus on Library and Information Science, Art History, History, English, or Humanities.
• Likes detailed work, even if repetitive.
• Always double checks for typos.
• Enjoys working independently.
• Comfortable learning new technologies and skills.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel.
• Good communication, interpersonal skills, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Creating new metadata and/or repurposing existing metadata.
• Ingesting metadata and digital files into the DC repository.
• Verifying that ingests were successful.
• Assisting with accessibility for digital files, including transcription, proofreading, and alt text.
