Job summary

University of Chicago Physicians Group (UCPG) is seeking an Abstractor/Coder to manage professional billing, coding and compliance activities. You will work with providers and staff to ensure accurate charge capture and education on coding issues, including fraud and abuse, with flexible work arrangements.

The role requires strong knowledge of E/M coding guidelines, and RHIA/CCS or CPC certification; Epic and IDX familiarity is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years in physician/healthcare billing or RHIA-certified HIM graduate
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS-P/CPC/CCS certification required
• Epic/Last Word/IDX experience required
• Academic medical center or large hospital billing experience preferred
• Experience coding Medicine subspecialties preferred
• Epic Professional Billing experience preferred
• Remote work options for coders in good standing

Responsibilities

• Obtain reimbursement by coding procedures, diagnoses, and visits
• Analyze denial and rejection reports and appeal when appropriate
• Submit charges in a timely manner
• Guide faculty and staff on charge capture and documentation
• Educate physicians and staff on coding issues including fraud and abuse
• Attend meetings on clinical revenue production and compliance
• Track inpatient service physicians and ensure charges are captured
• Manage tracking log
• Audit providers rotating on inpatient service and provide feedback
• Other duties as assigned
