Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking a Medical Coder to review medical documentation and assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for accurate billing.

The role requires completion of a certified medical coding program, AHIMA or AAPC certification, and strong English communication skills in a healthcare setting. At least 6 months of coding experience in a clinic or hospital is preferred. Remote work possible for Minnesota residents with variable hours.

Qualifications

• Completion of a certified medical coding program.
• AHIMA or AAPC certification.
• Proficient English reading, writing, and speaking in a healthcare environment.
• 6 months of medical coding experience in a clinic or hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and analyzes medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures for accurate coding and reporting.
• Assigns accurate medical codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems to accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensures coding meets regulatory and payer requirements.
• Collaborates with providers to clarify ambiguous or incomplete documentation to ensure accuracy.
• Monitors coding worklists, such as claims, denials, account checks, and tasks, ensuring timely resolution.
• Processes and transmits coded medical records to facilitate billing and reimbursement.
• Participates in internal and external audits to support coding quality.
• Keeps current with coding standards, payer policies, and documentation best practices.
