Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a qualified Medical Coder to assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for Primary Care and Family Medicine. The role includes auditing documentation, querying physicians when needed, and maintaining up-to-date coding knowledge.

You will telecommute from anywhere in the United States and work under deadlines with limited supervision while supporting a comprehensive benefits program and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (CPC, COC, CPC-P, CCS) maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with PCs in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding with a focus in Primary Care and Family Med.

Responsibilities

• Assigns accurate diagnostic and procedure codes according to clinical documentation and official coding guidelines for Primary Care and Family Med.
• Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes to all services.
• Monitors work queues to ensure timely charging and coding of records.
• Generates coding queries for clarification regarding physician documentation as needed.
• Stays updated on changes in coding conventions and updates.
• Manage significant workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• All other duties as assigned.
