Job summary

MU Health Care is seeking a Reimbursement Assistant to join the Financial Clearance - Surgery Team. The role focuses on extracting data and applying ICD-9-CM and CPT codes for accurate billing, coordinating billing with external agencies, and addressing audit issues.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in medical coding or related field is required.
• Two years of medical-related experience including one year of medical coding is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of professional and technical billings/collections with university departments and outside agencies (e.g., Medical Records, Practice Plan, Hospital Admissions, outside hospitals, insurers, state/federal agencies).
• Screen medical records for potential claims liability issues and audit records to identify problems with billing and reimbursement processes.
• Act as a liaison between third-party payers and departments to resolve audit discrepancies.
• Interpret healthcare documentation to determine principal diagnosis and procedures for accurate reimbursement.
• May perform unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
