Job summary

South Texas College is seeking a Student Learning Assistant to provide academic learning support, tutor students, prepare materials, and assist with the daily operations of the college’s learning centers.

You will deliver individual and group instruction, maintain records, promote resources, and collaborate with faculty to support student success. A high school diploma or GED is required, with college coursework preferred; strong MS Office and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college certificate or 30 college hours preferred.
• Demonstrated mastery of sufficient coursework in subject, earning at least a grade of B required, preferably an A.
• Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
• Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
• Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.

Responsibilities

• Provides educational assistance to students in specific disciplines to improve comprehension and mastery of the subject.
• Assists in preparation of workshops and materials to enhance student comprehension and supplement course assignments.
• Integrates study strategy techniques with course content.
• Provides individual and group instruction to students onsite or online as assigned.
• Keeps regular and accurate records using required software and submits appropriate paperwork in a timely manner.
• Engages in promoting and presenting information about academic support services.
• Assists in serving as a Centers for Learning Excellence liaison with faculty and staff for student success.
