Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for assisting the Legal Department with various contested or escalated matters to facilitate appropriate and timely actions. Perform all duties in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures, and all applicable US laws and regulations.
The target pay range for this position is $75,000.00 to $90,000.00
What You’ll Do
- Assist in reviewing pleadings prepared by outside counsel, including summons, complaints, affidavits, answers, motions, orders, and judgments.
- Review and prepare discovery responses and objections, obtain verifications, and review redactions. Locate knowledgeable persons to help develop responses to discovery requests.
- Review and respond to various written correspondence related to contested matters.
- Manage case matters in the system, analyze complaints, investigate claims, retain outside counsel, and provide necessary records.
- Assist outside counsel with securing personnel for mediations, depositions, and other appearances.
- Maintain legal calendar and track key deadlines.
- Research laws, statutes, judicial decisions, and legal articles to prepare documents and memos.
- Conduct factual research from various sources.
- Assist with case settlement preparations, including data gathering, document organization, and agreement review.
- Lead pre-claim title investigations, review title records, and prepare related memos and claims.
- Perform clerical duties like photocopying and scanning.
- Serve as liaison between outside counsel, internal departments, and attorneys.
- Manage responses to subpoenas and provide litigation updates.
- Resolve routine legal issues under attorney supervision.
- Prepare quarterly litigation and pre-litigation reports.
What You’ll Need
- Understanding of mortgage servicing and litigation.
- Intermediate skills in MS Word and Excel.
- Strong writing and proofreading skills.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and pay attention to details.
- Decision-making skills with significant impact.
- Ability to understand opposing viewpoints and negotiate.
- Organizational and prioritization skills.
- Basic math skills and accurate record-keeping.
- Effective oral communication skills.
- Ability to track and record time accurately.
- Associate’s degree and paralegal certification or Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a paralegal, preferably in mortgage servicing.
