The Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for assisting the Legal Department with various contested or escalated matters to facilitate timely and appropriate actions. Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable US laws and regulations.
The target pay range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in reviewing pleadings prepared by outside counsel, including summons, complaints, affidavits, answers, motions, orders, and judgments.
- Review and prepare discovery responses, obtain verifications, review redactions, and locate knowledgeable persons for responses.
- Handle responses to written correspondence related to contested matters.
- Maintain case management system, analyze complaints, investigate claims, retain outside counsel, and provide necessary records.
- Assist outside counsel with mediations, depositions, and other appearances.
- Maintain legal calendar and monitor deadlines.
- Research legal sources, analyze issues, and prepare legal documents and memos.
- Conduct factual research using various resources.
- Assist with case settlement preparations, including data organization, settlement requests, and reviewing agreements.
- Lead pre-claim title investigations, review title records, and prepare related memos.
- Perform administrative duties like photocopying and scanning.
- Serve as liaison between outside counsel and internal departments.
- Manage responses to subpoenas and provide litigation status updates.
- Resolve routine legal issues under attorney supervision.
- Prepare quarterly pre-litigation and litigation reports.
What You’ll Need
- Understanding of mortgage servicing and litigation.
- Intermediate MS Office skills.
- Strong writing and proofreading skills.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, pay attention to details, and collaborate.
- Decision-making skills impacting immediate work and outside effects.
- Ability to understand opposing viewpoints and negotiate.
- Organizational and prioritization skills for short-term planning.
- Basic math and record-keeping skills.
- Effective oral communication skills.
- Ability to accurately track and record time.
- Associate’s degree plus paralegal certification or Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a paralegal, with mortgage servicing experience preferred.
