Job description

Position Overview

The Peer Support Behavioral Center is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to join our dynamic team. As a full-time or part-time counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing therapeutic interventions and support to individuals navigating mental health challenges. You will work in a fully remote telehealth environment, allowing you to positively impact the lives of your clients from the comfort of your home. Our salary range for this role is competitive, between USD 87,000 – 105,000 yearly, commensurate with experience.

About the Organization

Peer Support Behavioral Center is an innovative, multifaceted clinic located in Lakewood, New Jersey, that integrates various health services, including obstetrics, pediatrics, general medicine, family planning, and dentistry. Our dedicated staff is committed to addressing critical social issues that affect our community, offering a wide array of educational, intervention, and management services. We prioritize confidentiality in every interaction and accept Medicaid, Medicare, and most private health insurance plans, ensuring our services are accessible to those in need.

Work Environment

This position offers a fully remote telehealth setting, providing you with the flexibility to work from anywhere while maintaining a structured approach to patient care. You will engage in virtual meetings, conduct assessments, and provide counseling through secure telehealth platforms. Our team embraces technology to facilitate communication, ensuring an efficient workflow that meets the needs of our clients and adheres to the guidelines set by the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with primary care providers to identify and manage mental health and psychosocial issues, contributing as a vital member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient intakes and diagnostic evaluations, accurately documenting findings and formulating individualized treatment plans in collaboration with primary care providers.
  • Provide targeted, evidence-based brief interventions tailored to the specific needs of patients requiring mental health support.
  • Advise primary care providers on patient needs, determining which individuals would benefit from continued care in primary settings versus referrals to specialty mental health services.
  • Implement follow-up procedures to monitor patient progress, conducting regular check-ins to assess treatment efficacy and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Develop relapse prevention plans for patients at high risk of recurring difficulties, guiding them toward stable functioning and healthier lifestyle choices.
  • Identify and support “at risk” patients through thoughtful intervention strategies aimed at averting deterioration of their mental health.
  • Document patient progress, therapeutic interventions, and diagnostic impressions meticulously, ensuring thorough and accurate record-keeping.
  • Maintain open communication with primary care teams to align treatment goals and share observations related to patient care plans.
  • Empower patients with self-management skills and educational resources to promote active participation in their recovery journey.
  • Consult with clinic management and team members regarding behavioral health services, sharing insights to optimize program evaluations and outcomes.
  • Assist patients in navigating medical treatments advised by primary care providers, providing coping strategies for medication side effects.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, adhering to established codes of practice within the counseling profession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to enhance patient care and clinic operations.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will work with a diverse client population that includes various age groups and backgrounds, reflecting the multifaceted nature of our community. Patients may present with a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma-related issues, and chronic stress, necessitating thoughtful and culturally competent approaches to care.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • A valid, current Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure is required.
  • Strong understanding of mental health assessment processes, treatment planning methodologies, and relevant therapeutic practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in DSM-IV diagnoses and familiarity with psychotherapeutic theories and methods.
  • Preferred proficiency in both English and Spanish to effectively serve our bilingual community, though not required.
  • Capacity to maintain mental and physical health in accordance with job demands.
  • Insight into the social and personal effects of mental health issues on individuals and families.
  • Knowledge of community resources and their application in enhancing patient care.
  • Adept in psychodiagnostics and the application of therapeutic techniques for diverse patient needs.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in a community health or telehealth setting is highly desirable.
  • Previous exposure to integrated care models, working alongside primary care providers.
  • Understanding of evidence-based treatment interventions and their application in practice.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of USD 87,000 – 105,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package. Our organization is committed to your professional development and well-being, providing resources for continuous learning and growth.
