Role Overview: We are actively seeking an experienced Lead UX Researcher to join the Direct-to-Consumer Product UX Research Team to fuel design and development of the Max video streaming experience with rich customer insights.

In this role, you will lead various research workstreams aimed at global subscriber acquisition and retention, focusing on innovation in subscription experiences and e-commerce. You will guide cross-functional teams through a User-Centered Design (UCD) process, conducting strategic generative user research, iterative design testing, usability testing, and live experimentation to improve the subscriber experience. Your insights will inform product strategy, roadmap, features, and the future of video streaming experiences.

Responsibilities in this Role:

  • Provide UX research insights to equip product and design teams with strategic and tactical data for product decisions such as feature prioritization and innovation.
  • Stay aware of stakeholder OKRs and priorities to identify top research needs and recommend research to advance team efforts and reach goals.
  • Propose research plans with guidance from the Program Director, including explaining the customer problem space, business value, research approach, objectives, methods, resources, tools, labs, and budget.
  • Communicate project status with stakeholders under guidance from Program Directors.
  • Lead small teams of in-house or vendor research staff as needed.
  • Conduct global research studies end-to-end, including identifying needs, setting objectives, choosing methods, coordinating prototypes, recruiting, moderating, analyzing data, and reporting.
  • Present insights and conduct workshops to apply findings to product decisions and design solutions. Track research impact to improve value.
  • Manage user research projects, including vendor management, software coordination, cost estimation, timelines, prototype security, recruitment, and lab needs.
  • Maximize insights by synthesizing data across research, analytics, and data science to identify key learnings.
  • Translate data into clear, actionable insights for all organizational levels.
  • Ensure data quality while maintaining decision-making speed.
  • Advocate for customer needs, best practices, and UX standards.
  • Grow the UXR team’s expertise and explore new research methods, industry trends, and emerging tech to develop innovative solutions.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • 8+ years of progressively complex UX research experience on global product teams or consulting groups.
  • 2+ years leading high-profile research projects and presenting to decision-makers.
  • 2+ years leading a small research team.
  • Graduate degree in Engineering Human Factors, Psychology, HCI, or similar, with formal usability testing training.
  • Experience with global product research involving international stakeholders and audiences.
  • Experience with research for ecommerce UX flows like purchase paths, payments, cancellations, and subscriptions.
  • Strong business acumen and client management skills, adaptable research approaches, and clear communication.
  • Proven ability to design and execute impactful research studies.
  • Expertise in mixed-methods research, including qualitative and quantitative methods, and ability to select appropriate techniques.
  • Practical experience with qualitative methods (diary studies, cognitive walkthroughs, IDIs, focus groups, usability tests) and remote adaptations.
  • Proficiency in quantitative methods and data analysis tools, including surveys and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to synthesize data into clear insights and foster understanding across teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal, visual, and written formats.
  • Experience with global UX research and working in agile environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive team culture, empathy, and candor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical background in ecommerce, streaming, social media, or entertainment.
  • Experience with Connected TV devices and gaming consoles.
  • Experience testing streaming media and immersive displays.
  • Knowledge of AI or machine learning tools, with interest in innovation.
