Job summary

American Oncology Network is seeking a Lead Security Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership for the enterprise security program. You will oversee security tools, monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response, and MSP/MSSP partners across a distributed healthcare environment.

You will lead a small security team, develop personnel, and implement security practices across all AON locations, including HIPAA and NIST-aligned activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information security or related field preferred.
• 8+ years information security or security engineering experience with hands-on tooling.
• 2+ years leading security staff.
• Experience with MSP/MSSP/MDR providers; SIEM/XDR and vulnerability mgmt experience.
• HIPAA/HITRUST/NIST CSF healthcare security knowledge.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID and Rapid7 insights.
• Healthcare multisite provider experience and EHR familiarity preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own and administer security tech stack including SIEM/SOAR and endpoint protection.
• Lead security event triage and incident investigations with MDR partner.
• Oversee vulnerability scanning, remediation, and patch management.
• Strengthen IAM controls, MFA, and privileged access management.
• Coordinate annual HIPAA/NIST aligned risk assessments and tests.
• Manage vendor and security partner oversight and deliverables.
• Mentor security staff and improve security workflows through automation.
