Samsara is seeking a Lead Design Engineer to build and scale the design system powering our product across web and mobile. You will define components, tokens, and guidelines for designers and engineers alike, shaping how teams build with high quality AI-assisted design.

You will work across design and code, codifying principles and ensuring accessibility, performance, and maintainability. This remote role is open to candidates residing in the US and offers a path to impact a broad set of

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in design engineering, design systems, product design, or front-end engineering.
Shipped design system or component library work with portfolio or case studies.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, HCI, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
AI tools usage in design workflows (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) with tangible outputs.

Responsibilities

Develop core system components, evals, and feedback loops to harden AI design and code generation.
Govern taste through structure, preventing AI slop from reaching customers.
Ensure system decisions translate into code with shared ownership of quality, performance, and maintainability.
Build accessibility, responsiveness, and performance into the system by default.
Set contribution, governance, and deprecation models balancing speed with integrity.
Meet regularly with designers and engineers to incorporate usage data into next builds.
Share AI tools, workflows, and tactics across teams.
Champion Samsara’s cultural principles at global scale.
