Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Lead Design Engineer to build and scale our design system across web and mobile. You will work in both design and code, shaping components, tokens, and guidelines for teams to build with, while codifying principles for high-quality AI generation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in design engineering, design systems, product design, or front-end engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS, HCI, or equivalent practical experience.
• Shipped design system or component library with portfolio, case studies, or code samples.
• Strong interaction and visual design with good pattern judgements.
• Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards.
• Experience partnering with designers, engineers and product managers on short cycles.

Responsibilities

• Develop core system components, evals, and feedback loops to harden AI design and code generation.
• Govern taste through structure, preventing AI slop from reaching customers.
• Ensure system decisions translate into clean code with shared ownership of quality.
• Incorporate accessibility, responsiveness and performance by default.
• Define contribution, governance, and deprecation models balancing speed and integrity.
• Collaborate with designers and engineers to gather feedback and usage data for next iterations.
• Share AI tools, workflows, and tactics with design and engineering teams.
• Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales globally.
