Job summary

Optum is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to drive the delivery of AI-powered, scalable enterprise software in the Clinical AI domain. You will lead AI-enabled integration projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate across business, product, engineering, and security teams to meet enterprise standards and responsible AI guidelines.

The role supports telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S., with a focus on delivering automated, secure solutions that improve healthcare workflows and delivery

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science or technology, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in application architecture, AI/ML engineering, quality engineering, or platform engineering.
• 5+ years leading development/testing of web, API, integration, or cloud-native solutions.
• 5+ years providing technical leadership, mentoring, design reviews, and delivery oversight.
• 4+ years with CI/CD, DevOps tooling, release automation, and modern software delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end technical integration efforts for AI-enabled solutions from discovery to production handoff.
• Collaborate with business, product, engineering, security, infrastructure, and operational partners on AI integration opportunities.
• Translate needs into scalable technical requirements aligned with enterprise standards and responsible AI.
• Design and deliver AI-enabled integration solutions, including orchestration and AI-assisted workflows.
• Drive AI 10.0 initiatives with scalable implementations that reduce manual effort and accelerate automation.
• Assess options for fit within enterprise infrastructure, including security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Independently manage complex workstreams, identify dependencies, risks, and governance needs.
• Coordinate validation activities including PoCs, environment readiness, API testing, performance, security, and production readiness.
• Ensure identity, data privacy, compliance, resilience, monitoring, and auditability per standards.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices for AI-enabled design and sustainable platform integration.
