Job summary

Atlassian is seeking a senior leader to build and mentor a distributed engineering organization in San Francisco. You will drive AI measurement frameworks, optimize AI toolchains, and oversee scalable compute and runtime infrastructure for developer tooling.

You will partner with product, TPMs, and designers to shape strategy and roadmaps, while fostering a culture of learning, experimentation, and operational rigor across multiple time zones.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
• 2+ years of experience managing other engineering managers or leading teams of senior/principal engineers.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong background in distributed systems, developer platforms, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), or developer tooling.
• Experience with applied AI/ML systems, LLMs, AI agents, MCP tooling, RAG, or AI evaluation frameworks.
• Proven ability to partner with product managers, TPMs, and designers to shape product and platform strategy.
• Track record of operating in distributed, asynchronous global engineering environments across multiple time zones.
• Experience implementing DevOps, CI/CD, and site reliability best practices.
• Eagerness to foster a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and operational rigor.

Responsibilities

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing distributed team of engineering managers, principal engineers, and senior software engineers.
• Drive AI Measurement & Evaluation by building frameworks that measure AI tools and agents value across codebases and workflows.
• Optimize AI effectiveness and context retrieval pipelines, reduce unit costs while improving model accuracy and reliability.
• Build and operate scalable, resilient compute and runtime infrastructure for agentic workflows and developer tooling.
• Be the engineering voice in quarterly planning, capacity allocation, and long-term roadmaps.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, product management, and cross-functional partners to productize AI platform capabilities.
• Foster an open, high-trust, operationally mature engineering culture with high standards of technical excellence and psychological safety.
