Job summary

Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Benefits Access Coordinator within the Family Investment Administration to lead language access, compliance, and related initiatives. The role focuses on ensuring meaningful access to services, overseeing language services, and advising on policy and program improvements.

The position requires extensive experience in public administration, capability to train staff, and collaboration across divisions to promote equitable service delivery.

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in the administration of a human services program or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices and organizations, plus an additional four years in administration of a human services program.

Responsibilities

• Language Access Plan (LAP) Management: Develops, implements, and updates the LAP to meet state/federal requirements and best practices.
• Staff Development & Technical Support: Designs and delivers language access training for staff and provides guidance and interpretation of relevant policies.
• Systems and Communication Improvement: Collaborates with MD Benefits, Systems, and program teams to align with plain language and language access standards.
• Language Service Coordination: Manages interpretation and translation services, oversees vendor contracts, and maintains resources.
• Community Outreach & Partnerships: Implements outreach to inform LEP communities and builds partnerships with community organizations.
