Job summary

State of California, Department of Insurance, seeks an Associate Insurance Compliance Officer to investigate and resolve consumer complaints related to insurance coverages, rating, underwriting, and claims handling. The role mediates with licensees and may pursue enforcement actions as needed.

Hybrid telework is available; occasional travel may be required. This position offers growth in a large state marketplace and a meaningful public service role.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in insurance claims adjusting or insurance consumer service.
• Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Journalism, Literature, History, English, Sociology, Humanities, Psychology or Philosophy.
• Knowledge of claims insurance practices and applicable laws and regulations.
• Licensed as a Producer Agent and/or Broker.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, mediate, resolve, and/or respond to consumer complaints and inquiries related to insurance coverages and claims handling.
• Identify violations of insurance practices and guide licensees/entities to resolve issues with appropriate follow-up actions.
• Communicate with consumers via telephone, written correspondence, e-commerce, and in-person interviews.
• Assist in enforcing actions and participate in governmental decision processes as required.
