We are seeking an experienced Remote Hyperscale Structured Cabling Design Engineer to lead the design and integration of high-density structured cabling systems for large-scale, mission-critical data center environments. This role will be responsible for architecting fiber and copper infrastructure that supports hyperscale computing, AI workloads, cloud environments, and next-generation network deployments. The ideal candidate brings deep structured cabling design expertise along with a strong understanding of data center mechanical, electrical, and thermal environments.
- Architect end-to-end structured cabling solutions using single-mode and multimode fiber, MPO/MTP high-density trunks, and Cat6/Cat6A copper infrastructure.
- Develop detailed construction documentation, including floor plans, rack elevations, pathway layouts, cable schedules, and fiber splicing diagrams.
- Design overhead and underfloor pathway systems while accounting for fill ratios, cable loads, bend-radius requirements, accessibility, and future capacity.
- Develop scalable cabling architectures for hyperscale, enterprise, colocation, and AI-focused data center environments.
- Design infrastructure with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and future network growth.
Cross-Functional Integration
- Partner closely with MEP, facilities, data center engineering, and construction teams to coordinate cable routing and infrastructure placement.
- Ensure structured cabling designs integrate effectively with hot aisle/cold aisle containment, liquid cooling, and advanced thermal-management systems.
- Collaborate with network architects and engineering teams to support spine-and-leaf network architectures and future expansion requirements.
- Identify and resolve potential conflicts between telecommunications pathways and mechanical, electrical, and facility infrastructure.
Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Produce accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), Statements of Work (SOWs), and project cost estimates.
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and as-built documentation for accuracy and design compliance.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable BICSI, TIA/EIA, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, and customer-specific requirements.
- Support quality assurance activities throughout installation, testing, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Help ensure completed installations align with approved engineering documentation and performance requirements.
Qualifications Required
- 5+ years of structured cabling design experience.
- 2+ years of experience supporting hyperscale, enterprise data center, telecommunications, or colocation environments.
- Proven experience designing high-density fiber and copper infrastructure for mission-critical facilities.
- Strong knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber, MPO/MTP connectivity, and Cat6/Cat6A copper solutions.
- Experience designing and coordinating cable pathways, rack layouts, and high-density data center infrastructure.
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Working knowledge of relevant structured cabling and life-safety standards, including BICSI, TIA/EIA, IEEE, NEC, and NFPA.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with MEP, facilities, network engineering, construction, and installation teams.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.
Preferred
- Experience supporting major hyperscale environments such as AWS, Microsoft, Google, or Meta.
- BICSI DCDC (Data Center Design Consultant) certification.
