Job summary

Columbia Insurance seeks a Commercial Lines Underwriter to determine acceptability of new applications, renewals, and endorsements based on risk characteristics and underwriting standards. This role may be remote or hybrid for candidates located in the Austin, TX area.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial lines products and coverages.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Review new applications, renewals and endorsements for acceptability on commercial lines policies.
• Evaluate risks and determine insurability based on location, property and operations.
• Determine pricing and select appropriate policy forms using risk and experience factors.
• Coordinate facultative reinsurance as appropriate and monitor policy bases.
• Maintain knowledge of underwriting laws and state regulations.
• Educate agents by presenting technical and corporate information on commercial insurance.
• Visit and review agencies to improve submissions and relationships.
• Communicate with regulators, other insurers, reinsurers, co-workers and agents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
