Cayuga Medical Center is seeking a HIM Assistant to manage health information within our Epic EHR, scanning and indexing incoming documents, and ensuring accurate patient records for healthcare providers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or certification in HIM preferred.
• Experience with Epic EHR or other EHR systems is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare documentation practices.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.

Responsibilities

• Scan physical documents, forms, and medical records into the Epic EHR system.
• Ensure scanned documents are clear, legible, and correctly indexed.
• Review documents for completeness and accuracy before uploading to patient records.
• Upload scanned documents to the correct patient record within the Epic system.
• Maintain and organize patient records with accurate filing and indexing for easy retrieval.
• Verify accuracy and completeness of uploaded documents and ensure linkage to the correct patient record.
• Conduct periodic reviews of records to ensure regulatory compliance and hospital policies.
• Collaborate with HIM staff and healthcare providers to ensure timely processing of health records.
• Respond to inquiries from medical staff regarding missing or misplaced documents.
• Adhere to HIPAA and maintain patient confidentiality; ensure security of records.
• Assist with general administrative duties to support HIM operations.
