Job summary

Altisource is seeking an experienced HECM Underwriter to support our reverse mortgage origination platform. You will underwrite FHA-insured reverse mortgage loans, ensuring HUD guidelines, investor requirements, and internal standards are met.

The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of mortgage underwriting, strong FHA/HUD knowledge, and proficient use of FHAConnection, HERMIT, RVExchange, and valuation tools. Remote US-based role with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, with direct HECM/reverse mortgage underwriting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of FHA/HECM underwriting guidelines and HUD regulations.
• Proficient in reviewing and interpreting FHAConnection, HERMIT, RVExchange and similar platforms.
• Experience with title review, trusts, and vesting documentation.
• Ability to identify and mitigate underwriting risk while ensuring FHA insurability standards.

Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite HECM loan files per HUD, FHA, and investor guidelines.
• Complete financial assessments: income, assets, liabilities, and residual income.
• Evaluate borrower eligibility, occupancy, and counseling compliance.
• Review appraisals and collateral docs for FHA and investor standards.
• Analyze title commitments and vesting structures.
• Identify underwriting conditions and communicate deficiencies.
• Ensure loans meet FHA insurability and investor standards.
• Maintain thorough documentation for compliance and audit readiness.
• Collaborate with fulfillment, processing, and QC teams to close loans.
• Support post-underwriting reviews and quality control initiatives.
• Keep current with reverse mortgage regs and industry best practices.
